The track was recorded at Breakglass Studio in Montreal with James Benjamin (The Breezes)

The idea of getting in a place to record one single track from FORUM and make a music video out of it had been around for a while, probably since early January 2012. We first approached Howard Bilerman and determined that the single would be captured at hotel2tango but right before booking, we discovered that absolutely magnificent studio, hidden in an industrial block in the outskirts of the Mile-Ex. We were all charmed by the mystical Neve console in that gloomy but truly warm control room. The project eventually died and we got caught in that kind of period where you just dream and stop doing anything. In May, we decided to mail Breakglass to see if it was possible to book a single day in June, two days after our performance at Inspecteur Épingle's Tavern. Two days later, I was entering this unique place and meeting Jace Lasek to discuss about the studio's history, the console, the occasional gigs... A month later, we were setting up our gear, moving the drums from The Breezes' rehearsal room and trying to find the perfect sounding amp for We Are an Empire. After a long and perilous sound check, we walked out of the studio for a treat and discovered Depanneur le Pick-up. After a brief lunch, we started recording beds, then moved on to the keys, and guitar and finally ended with the vocals. It was about 8h30 when we left again for tacos at El Rey del Taco near Jean Talon market. We then sat down at the table in Breakglass' wacky kitchen to eat, discuss about The Breezes' US Tour, future projects and whatnot. We then moved on to the mixing which was pretty quick because we only had a day. We left the studio at 10PM, happier than we had ever been. That feeling of accomplishment, of living the "real" thing made us levitate for long.

Every time we feel slightly depressed because of how hard being a musician can be, in a world hostile to creativity and audacity, we bring back those memories of what probably was the best day of my life. I will never forget how it felt to stop thinking about anything possibly bothering you and just focus on these extraordinary things that keep you alive.

We are an empire, my dear
We travel through the ages to fight our fears
Over the never-ending sunset
The world is ours, your vision is clear

Beyond temptations all over our lives
Until admonition and ascension to the sky
Our forces united for a better future
A deep sensation of a glorious stature

Time could let us know
A travel could be achieved
Facing oceans and seas
The earth of our own dreams

We are an empire, oh dear
We travel through lands to crush anyone near
Right over the everlasting thunder
I made my mind

Beyond hollow timelines with some kind of clock
Time could stop as long as we're in control
Please don't let someone invade the one
The empire we've lived in, that we are part of
